Nam Long donates $216,000 to support frontline personnel in COVID-19 battle

HCM CITY — With the Covid-19 pandemic still unabated, causing difficulties to different sections of society, especially those on the frontline like doctors, border troops and youth volunteers, Nam Long Group has launched a campaign called ‘Nam Long joins hands to fight Covid-19’ to offer financial and material support worth VNĐ5 billion (US$216,000) to localities where the disease is raging.

Steven Chu, general director of Nam Long Investment Corporation, said: “As a business towards sustainable development, we are always aware of our responsibility towards the community and society".

In early August Nam Long took practical actions to help people affected by the pandemic such as a project to hand over a rice-dispensing machine and 70 tonnes of rice worth about VNĐ1 billion to Long An Province. The campaign this time is to provide additional financial resources and psychological support to frontline forces, who are facing many dangers and material shortages in the fight against Covid-19.

As part of the campaign, on the afternoon of August 20 Nam Long Group and the family of the group's chairman signed a memorandum of understanding online with the Central Youth Union and Việt Nam Youth Federation Central Committee to donate VNĐ2.5 billion to the latter’s programme called ‘Sharing love, joining hands to overcome the pandemic’.

Nam Long will collaborate with the Central Youth Union to donate essential stuff for personnel in charge of fighting the pandemic and people living in severely affected areas such as Đà Nẵng city and Hải Dương and Quảng Nam provinces.

Necessities and water tanks will also be donated to border guards at checkpoints to meet their urgent needs and safeguard their health.

Border guards are now undertaking both their main task of protecting the borders and that of prevention of Covid-19 in extremely difficult living conditions. Besides joining hands with the Central Youth Union in the fight against the pandemic, Nam Long will also donate VNĐ1 billion to frontline hospitals in HCM City for buying protective equipment and medical masks to help protect doctors and other medical staff.
It pays special attention to supporting frontline forces in its townships and has set aside VNĐ500 million for this. They include sanitary workers and security guards who work diligently and take great risk to keep the environment safe for township residents amid the epidemic.
